Congress System Upgrade

Updates October 15th

The congress system has been upgraded to a new version of the underlying Drupal software from version 7 to version 10. This was necessary so that the system has all the latest security patches. Almost all the functionality is exactly the same as it was, apart from changes noted here:

  • The most obvious change is that it looks different. The theme that the previous system was based on is no longer supported. If there is any problem with how it looks, for example font sizes and colours, let me know and maybe it can be changed.
  • Inline styles are not allowed in the HTML for a congress for security reasons. This means that some of the text in the congress home pages does not look as good anymore. I will work with you to address theses issues. See the help
  • It is no longer necessary to know HTML. If you change the text format to "Full HTML" when editing the congress text, you have an editor where you can just select headings, paragraphs, lists and tables. Also, if you select a paragraph, h2, or h3 heading, then the style drop down has some styles which allow you to add colours. See the help
  • The paypal email is now a per congress setting, so it no longer needs an admin to change it
  • All the Admin options for a congress are now below an Admin tab. The congress home page text is in a separate Text tab. The sections are in a separate Sections tab. Clone button is replaced by a Tab. There is a new Tab called Status, which replaces the View tab that was there before and has a link to the Organisation settings.
  • The Organisation settings, now has a Costs tab. Which encourages congress organisers to donate to the hosting costs witch have been increasing. There is a Donate by Paypal button under which an arbitrary amount can be specified.  If you want prefer to donate by bank transfer, email me and let me know. I will update the "paid by other" box to contain all the donations you have already made.
  • Reports now have a link to the order to you can see Paypal's transaction id.
  • Bank Transfer payment details only appear after the user has clicked the Pay According to Organiser Instructions button because some entrants were paying and then forgetting to press the button.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Some pay by bank transfer payment instructions got truncated in the migration. They have been copied back manually but please double check.

Updates November 3rd

  • Two new fields added to the congress Edit tab. Venue details text and Google Map HTML. If anything is entered in here, then a new Venue Tab appears to the user. The reason for this is because if you choose not to use HTML for the congress Text, then you can't put a Google map in their any more so it goes here instead.
  • New Paypal Charge field in congress Edit tab. If you enter a percentage here then it gets added on to anay paypal entries. This means that you can pass the paypal charges onto your entrants if you wish. If you do this it will show as an extra charge before they pay (in the Enter tab)
